Roaring into the 20's...

Here we are entering into a new decade.
It is 2020!!

Will we see a resurgence of weddings from 100 years ago. Will history repeat itself? With the popularity of "The Great Gatsby" and "Downtown Abby" on the rise. With all the gorgeousness from the 1920's I bet its safe to say that some brides will take the inspiration from the past and put a new twist on things and make their weddings their own....

Lets get inspired from times gone by...

The Headpiece...

In the 1920s brides chose headpieces that were made from items that either consisted of some sort of  pearls, beads, feathers, gems and delicate lace. Some of the most popular styles included cloche headdresses, which sometimes would be encircled with flowers. The flapper bride chose headbands that were called Bandeaus. They were usually made with beads or gem stones and were either silver or gold. For the more traditional bride, veils were the choice of the day and usually made of silk materials. They were decorated with flowers and leaves that would match the blooms in the brides bouquet.

The Bouquet...

The Bridal Bouquets of the 1920s contained monumental proportions of cascading florals with yards of silk and satin ribbons for good luck and were typically white in color with massive amounts of greenery. Incorporating such blooms as the Gardenia, Lily of the valley, Easter Lily, Calla Lilly, Orchids, Orange Blossoms, Jasmine and Myrtle. The bouquets were sometimes so large that they almost concealed the bride.

The Rings...

The 1920s saw a lot of change throughout the world and one of the changes was the beginning of the Art Deco design here in America. With its clean modern lines and geometric shapes. It represented glamor and luxury in its simplicity. Which by the way was perfect for jewelry. These wedding rings are beautiful and timeless.

The Cake...

White cakes for weddings became the symbol of prosperity due to the fact that refined white sugar was hard to come by and F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby became a prominent source of inspiration for 1920s weddings. People started decorating cakes with feathers, jewels, and ornaments with flowers on top. Commercial icing techniques became more elaborate and costly making the wedding cake unattainable for most people. This lead to the invention of the boxed cake called "Quick Mix". Boxed cakes started to appear in the very late 1920s. and as we moved into the 1930s this made wedding cakes more easily accessible and affordable...

Some 1920s Fun Facts...

Marshal Fields invented the wedding registry in 1924. The idea quickly caught the eye of other department stores and everyone seemed to follow suit. In the years to come it made a way for couples to let their friends and family know which china, silver, and crystal patterns they preferred.

Makeup was on the rise. Brides opted for bolder eyes often using petroleum jelly mixed with coal to create eyeliner that covered the entire lid and lined the bottom lashes. Dramatic red lipstick that emphasized the top lip over the bottom was all the rage.

The first fully automatic photographic film developing machine was patented in 1928 paving the way for wedding photography as we know it today. In the late 19th century, some couples began hiring a photographer to come to the wedding venue in order to pose for a formal wedding picture.
